Unveiling the Slogan 'Empowering Yonsei'


The 20th President, Dong-Sup Yoon, commenced his four-year term starting from the inauguration ceremony on February 1st.


The inauguration ceremony took place at 11 a.m. in the Concert Hall, Centennial Hall on Thursday, February 1st. Approximately 700 attendees, including Dong-Soo Hur, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Sung-Hee Lee, Trustee of the Board of Trustees, Il-Sun Yang, Trustee of the Board of Trustees, Jin Pyo Kim, Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, Ki-Moon Ban, the 8th Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kyoung Ryul Lee, President of the Yonsei Alumni Association, faculty, students, and other relevant figures both within and outside the university, participated to mark the new beginning of Yonsei.



The inauguration ceremony proceeded with Dong-Soo Hur, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, conducting the Investiture of the President. This was followed by the Presidential Oath of Office, President Yoon Dong-Sup's Swearing-in Ceremony, Proclamation & Presentation of Yonsei Key, Inaugural Address, and Congratulatory Remarks.


President Yoon Dong-Sup introduced the slogan "Empowering Yonsei" to enhance the spirit of Yonsei for a new era of research, education, and future prospects.



During the inauguration ceremony, President Yoon addressed the challenges and significance posed by the current era of major transformation in universities. He emphasized the essence of being Yonsei, as a response to the themes cutting across both disciplinarity and convergence.


In addition, he expressed his vision and aspirations for the university in the next four years, focusing on fostering talents with autonomous thinking, strengthening global competitiveness through interdisciplinary research, establishing a value-circulation model between the university and society, and promoting governance innovation where Yonsei community themselves become agents of change.


President Yoon, born in 1961, graduated from Kyungnam High School and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in medicine from Yonsei University, followed by a doctorate from Korea University. He assumed the position of a professor at Yonsei University's College of Medicine in 1999 and served in various roles, including Director of Surgery and Director of Gangnam Severance Hospital. He held external positions such as Chairman and President of the Korean Surgical Society. He currently serves as the President of the Korean Hospital Association and the Chairman of the Korean Medical Education Association.


The term of President Dong-Sup Yoon, the 20th president, extends from February 1st to January 31, 2028.
