Open a New Chapter of Korea-Africa Academic Exchange

Strengthening Global Partnerships through Higher Education Cooperation

Our university held the 2024 Conversation with Ambassadors Forum at the Presidential Residence Reception Hall on September 3, opening a new chapter of exchange and cooperation between Korea and Africa.

This forum was organized as a follow-up to the first-ever Korea-Africa Summit, held in June, to promote academic exchanges and enhance cooperation between the two sides at the level of higher education institutions.

Now in its second year, the event was themed “The Future of Higher Education in Korea and Africa” and featured keynote speeches and in-depth discussions on the development of partnerships between Korea and African countries. Ambassadors from nine African countries to Korea, along with a total of 13 country delegations, attended the event.

In his welcoming speech, President Yoon Dong-sup stated, “This event demonstrates our university’s commitment to leading the development of Korea-Africa relations,” and emphasized, “The Institute of African Studies plays a key role at the center of this cooperation.” He said, “We are planning a scholarship program for African students to discover and nurture talent.”

Director of the Institute of African Studies said, “The fact that this forum has been regularized is highly significant, and it is very meaningful that our university is becoming a global hub for the development of Korea-Africa relations.”

Director-General of the African and Middle Eastern Affairs Bureau at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, praised the positive outlook on Korea-Africa relations, stating, “Following the successful Africa Week in June, it is impressive to see the ongoing projects being promoted with Africa.”

Ambassador of Morocco and Deputy Head of the African Diplomatic Corps, expressed his expectations for Korea-Africa cooperation, stating, “Through education, Korea and Africa will be equipped with the capabilities to achieve the visions they have dreamed of.”

The Institute of African Studies remarked, “Korea is a major donor in the field of education ODA, and despite changes in government policies, universities maintain consistency, enabling stable exchanges.” He called for active exchanges with the Institute of African Studies.

Through this event, the partnership between Korea and Africa is expected to be further strengthened. Our university will continue ongoing exchanges and cooperation, expanding research and partnerships in various fields such as history, culture, society, economy, and politics in Africa.
