Research Funding of 25 Billion Won Over Five Years as a National Project



Yonsei University has been selected for the G-LAMP (Global-Learning & Academic Research Institution for Master's/PhD students and Postdocs) project, promoted by the Ministry of Education and the National Research Foundation of Korea. 


The G-LAMP project is a national initiative aimed at enhancing the basic science research capabilities of universities and producing innovative research outcomes to cultivate world-class researchers. Our university will get 25 billion won in research funding over five years.


Through this project, our university plans to establish the G-LAMP project team, which will integrate and operate campus research institutes, and conduct multidisciplinary convergent research in materials and energy science through the Greener-Futures Research Institute of Science (G-FRIS). The G-FRIS aims to achieve new scientific discoveries and technological innovations by combining various basic scientific research in materials and energy science.


Additionally, our university will provide over 3.65 billion won annually for five years to support emerging researchers (LAMP professors and postdoctoral researchers) in the field of materials and energy science and establish a research institute management support system led by the university headquarters to create an efficient research environment.


Furthermore, our university plans to utilize advanced research infrastructures, including IBM's 127-qubit Eagle quantum computer, to produce internationally competitive research results and strengthen our global research network.


Hong Jong-ill, Vice President of Office of Research Affairs, stated, “Through this project, our university will lead innovative research in materials and energy science and create an environment where emerging researchers can freely demonstrate their research capabilities. We aim to position ourselves as an international hub for basic science research and contribute to solving sustainable future challenges.”


Meanwhile, selection for the G-LAMP project is expected to be an important stepping stone for our university to grow into a hub of global basic science research.
