Event to share the achievements of social innovation project team 'Work Station'
Institute for Higher Education Innovation (IHEI) held IHEI Festa for Spring 2024 at Baekyangnuri on August 8. The event was held to share the final results of the "workstations" organized by socially innovative-minded students to take the lead in addressing the social issues around us, and to encourage the students who have been working to solve various problems. Through an MOU ceremony in April this year, IHEI selected 248 workstation teams in 6 fields that practiced social value creation and social innovation, and supported a total of 1,050 students in the first half of the year.
The three-part event consisted of ▲ Social Impact Talk ▲ Pitching for Workstations for the first half of 2024 ▲ awards and awarding of social innovator certificates.
In the Social Impact Talk, Kakao Impact Vice President Yuk Shimna gave a lecture on 'Technology that helps the helper' and talked about Kakao Impact's project to connect helper and helper to solve social problems and build a healthy society.
In the second round of workstation pitching, 12 teams that passed the preliminary round participated. They were divided into two categories, 'Social Value' and 'Impact Business', and presented their projects on creating social value and exploring new business opportunities. The top six teams were selected based on the combined scores of the judges' evaluations and public on-site evaluations.
The top prizes were awarded to the teams ▲Idaro (a political newsletter for 20-somethings), Farewell X (a grief care solution platform for suicide bereaved), and Upbrella (a sharing umbrella platform and automation system) in the Social Value category, and ▲OnDo (a low-dose liquid weighing and dosing tool for the visually impaired), CloseToME (an independent walking support technology for low-vision blind people), and Muto (a self-improvement app specialized for commuting time) in the Impact Business category, each receiving a scholarship of KRW 3 million.
The final part included the Yonsei Student Social Service Award, the awarding of the best teams in the Social Innovation Competition, and the introduction of the 11th Yonsei Social Innovators for the first half of the 2024 academic year.
Yonsei Social Innovators are students who have actively engaged in social innovation activities in curricular and non-curricular areas organized by the IHEI and spread social values on and off campus. The 11th representative, Park Chae-yeon (Child and Family Studies 21), presented her social innovation projects related to youth education and children, such as the 'Wave' project to raise awareness of long-term missing children and the 'Anib' project to produce videos, under the theme of 'Social Innovation in Our Footsteps'. A total of 19 new Yonsei Social Innovators were selected, including Park, bringing the total number of Yonsei Social Innovators to 126 since 2019.
President Yoon Dong-seop said, “It was a very moving time for me to feel your passion and dedication to solve various problems in society over the past semester.” “Even if your social innovation activities are still a breeze, we will actively support you to become a big wind and change society over time,” he added.
IHEI will continue to support students' social innovation activities in the second half of the year with new workstations and various programs.
