Yonsei International Campus to Launch 'K-Culture Gallery' Featuring Artist Park Dae-sung

Donation of 4 Representative Works Including ‘Winter Scene of Bulguksa Temple'

His Wife, Jung MI-Yeon, Also Donated 15 Works

Visitors Are Expected to Experience the Beauty of Korean Culture and Cultivate Artistic Literacy

Yonsei University’s Songdo International Campus is promoting the establishment of the 'K-Culture Gallery (tentative)' where visitors can enjoy the works of Korean artist Park Dae-sung. The K-Culture Gallery is scheduled to open at the end of this year after remodeling the lobby on the first floor of Veritas Hall.

The project was promoted as Park, upon receiving a proposal from Senior Vice President of International Campus Lee Jong-soo, decided to donate 4 of his representative works <Winter Scene of Bulguksa Temple>, <Cave on Water>, <Painting of Mt. Geumgang>, and <Yellowish Pottery>, along with 15 works of his wife Artist Jeong Mi-yeon to Yonsei University. The works are free for anyone to view, and visitors to the International Campus are expected to experience the beauty of Korean culture and cultivate their artistic literacy through the artworks.

Park remarked during his speech, "If the country is to survive, we must educate the young people well." "What is there to hesitate about when these artworks were requested for the students?"

Senior Vice President of the International Campus, Lee Jong Soo, said, "Songdo needs content that suits the era of culture." He added, "We will create a gallery centered on the works donated by Artist Park Dae-sung and turn the International Campus into a forest of culture."

Park, who lost his left arm during the Korean War, displayed outstanding artistry without formal education, winning eight prizes at the Grand Art Exhibition of Korea in 10 years from 1969 to 1978 and winning the grand prize at the 1979 Joongang Fine Arts Prize. He was also cherished by the late Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-hee, to the extent that he was called 'Lee Kun-hee's painter', and his works have been recognized in the global art market, being well received in overseas touring exhibitions. Recently, RM of BTS, who is an art lover, has been making headlines for visiting the exhibition hall and is attracting a lot of attention from the members of the MZ generation.

Additionally, Yonsei University plans to consider using the entire separate building on the International Campus as an exhibition hall.
