Completion of Plaza-Style Main Gate Befitting a Residential Campus
On June 13th at 11 AM, Yonsei University held a ceremony to unveil the new gateway sign at its International Campus. The event was attended by key figures such as Chairman of the Board Heo Dong-soo, Board Members, Auditor Kim Ki-hwang, President Dong-Sup Yoon, 45 faculty members, and various International Campus staff.
The International Campus's new plaza-style gateway is located at the main southern entrance, covering an area of approximately 4,620 square meters. Construction began on February 6th last year and was completed by October 31st. Subsequently, the installation of the name signboard was finished between March 25th and April 24th this year.
The Songdo International Campus is designed to embody the concept of a "residential university education," where students' education and daily lives are intertwined. The gateway, situated at the intersection of dormitories, educational facilities, and athletic facilities, was designed to integrate seamlessly with its surroundings. Unlike standalone structures, the newly completed gateway was created in a plaza style, allowing students to pass through freely and enhancing the symbolic presence of Yonsei University.
Senior Vice President of International Campus, Lee Jong Soo, remarked, "The International Campus is the first place where new students experience Yonsei. I hope that the new gateway will help further develop Yonsei's culture and vision."
Chairman Heo Dong-soo emphasized the historical significance of the International Campus, stating, "By establishing the International Campus in Incheon, where Underwood first set foot 139 years ago, a new chapter in the history of our university began." He also acknowledged the efforts of the university community, citing the recent successful bids for various national projects by the International Campus.
President Dong-Sup Yoon highlighted future plans, stating, "Yonsei University aims to establish a global bio R&D convergence complex in collaboration with Incheon City and the Economic Agency, based on the Yonsei Science Park (YSP) at the International Campus. We ask for your continued interest and support as the International Campus becomes a critical foundation for realizing Yonsei's founding spirit and preparing for the future."
