Yonsei University Office of International Affairs Hosted 'Australia Day' at Global Lounge

Supported by the Australian Embassy and Tourism Australia, Various Programs Were Conducted

On May 16th and 17th, the 'Spring 2024 Global Day' was held at the Global Lounge in the Commons (BaekyangNuri). This semester's theme was 'Australia Day,' hosted by Yonsei University's Office of International Affairs and organized by its affiliated club, Yonsei Global.

The event attracted approximately 1,000 visitors over two days and featured a variety of programs allowing participants to experience Australian culture from multiple perspectives. Activities included tasting popular Australian snacks such as Fairy Bread, Tim Tams, and Cheezels, sampling beverages like Bundaberg and So Good Almond Milk, participating in Australian cultural quizzes, applying Australian symbol tattoo stickers, playing Australian-themed mini-games, creating quokka dolls, and enjoying a photo booth.

On the first day of the event, Kim Yong-Chan, Vice President for International Affairs, and Youm Sang Hoon, Associate Dean, visited the Global Lounge to experience various booths and encourage the participating students.

'Australia Day' was planned from the beginning of the semester through the collaboration of Australian international students at our university and members of the Yonsei Global, Global Day team. The event was notable for its diverse cultural experiences, made possible through partnerships with institutions like the Australian Embassy in Korea, Tourism Australia, and Australian companies such as Mother Nest, Bundaberg, Sanitarium, and Koala Eco, as well as Brief Company.

Meanwhile, 'Global Day' is a flagship event held every semester at the Global Lounge, designed to broaden our students' understanding and appreciation of different cultures through interaction with multinational students.
