2022 Regular Yon-Ko Games to Be Held in 3 Years
2022 Regular Yon-Ko Games to Be Held in 3 Years

On October 28 and 29, in Seoul and Goyang

The regular Yon-Ko Games, which have not been held for three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will resume. Yonsei University and Korea University in Seoul, South Korea, will hold the regular Yonsei University - Korea University Friendly Games (Yon-Ko Games) for two days on October 28 and 29 at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, Mokdong Ice Rink, Goyang Gymnasium, and Goyang Stadium. With Yonsei dominating the 2019 regular Yon-Ko Games, which was held most recently, with two wins and one loss in three games, attention is being paid to whether Yonsei will be able to continue its victory in the Yon-Ko Games held in three years.

The two universities have been holding regular Yon-Ko Games, a venue to reaffirm their strong friendship and tradition as the two most prestigious private universities in South Korea. The regular Yonsei-Korea Games, which inherited the tradition of the competition between Yonhi College and Bosung College during the Japanese Colonial Era, is still considered the best annual festival for both university students.

The history of sports exchange between the two universities goes back to the tennis tournament in 1925, the first sports game for both Yonhi College and Bosung College, the predecessors of the two universities. After the tournament, there was a football (soccer) match between Yonhi and Bosung in 1927, recording the first "Yon-Bo Game." Since 1965, it has become a regular annual Yon-Ko Games of five varsity sports: baseball, basketball, ice hockey, rugby, and football. Since 1965, Yonsei has dominated with 21 winning years, 10 drawing years, and 18 losing years.

This year, the opening ceremony will begin at 10:30 am on October 28 (Fri) at Jamsil Baseball Stadium, and the baseball game will be held from 11:30 am. At 2:30 pm, the ice hockey game will start at Mokdong Ice Rink. The basketball game will then be held at Goyang Gymnasium from 5 pm.

On October 29 (Sat), the next day, the rugby match will be held at Goyang Stadium from 12 pm, and the football (soccer) game will begin at 2:30 pm. In particular, the women's football club game will be held for the first time at 10:30 am at Goyang Auxiliary Stadium, drawing keen attention as the first women's game ever.

Baseball, rugby, and football games can be entered without tickets, but basketball and ice hockey need invitation tickets.

In addition to sports, you can enjoy the Yon-Ko Games in various ways. A photo wall with a desire for Yonsei's victory will be installed in front of the entrance to Jamsil Baseball Stadium on Friday and the entrance to Goyang Stadium on Saturday. Against the backdrop of a photo wall decorated with Yonsei University's symbols, you can take commemorative photos with your friends and family and participate in an Instagram event to receive a Yonsei cheering towel. (※ The cheering towels are given on a first-come, first-served basis, and the event may be closed early if they are exhausted.)

Also, various side events will be held on Yonsei University's official social media. On the official Korean Instagram, "My Own Yon-Ko Games Fashion," which boasts OOTD worn at the 2022 Yon-Ko Games and the sharing of old memories of Yon-Ko Games will be operated. Real-time broadcasting of game scores and introducing of the players will be provided, and highlight review videos will be posted on YouTube afterward, so please pay attention to Yonsei's official channels.
