Physical Education Committee Establishment and Role
Establishment
In order to fulfill the vision of wisdom, virtue and physique of Yonsei University as a private university, the university has established the Physical Education Committee that is in charge of the physique in August 17 1962, as well as Office of Academic Affairs for wisdom, Office of Student’s Affairs for virtue. The Committee has supported five parts of athletic groups in the university and has formed independent budgets for its work and has changed its name as an affiliated higher education group “Physical Education Committee” in November 2004.
Role
Before Independence from Japanese Colonialism, sports has been a resisting force against colonialism and after independence, in order to establish a unity among people, the Yonsei-Korea University Sports league has been held since 1956 and has led to pride and college spirit. Events
Yonsei-Korea University Goodwill League
As a University league with the longest history and in-depth meaning in Korean history, two universities share their spirits, skills, and scholasticism with students, faculty, alumni and the public. In recent years as the event has come to strengthen the bonds of the two universities it has become the largest event to be celebrated by Seoul citizens as well. The games played in the league are football, basketball, baseball, ice hockey and rugby. Athletes have to qualify as: (1) Registered college student (2) Non- dual registration as a player in other inner school athlete group
International University Goodwill Matc
Physical Education Committee initiates international friendship through International University matches. There is a College Basketball game with Japan Ritgyo(立敎) University and Soccer match with Keio (庆应) University. In 1990, Yonsei University has signed a sisterhood with Moscow State University and has conducted sports exchanges
Intramural Sports Goodwill League
Intramural Sports League is an athletic competition on campus where the whole Yonsei family gather and compete for the Yonsei President Prize while promoting fellowship among students in the spirit of Yonsei.
Facility
Athletic and Baseball field
For a long time from Yonhi College days, there was a simple athletic field at the Engineering Hall grounds and at the end of Japanese Emperialism it used as farmland. Until the construction of Engineering Hall in July 1996 the field has been in that location. The current stadium that was completed in June 1971, although fully equipped, had international scale facilities such as drainage networks ( 5,224 square meters ) which made it possible to play a variety of football , rugby , ball game , 14 kinds of 100M track race. There are many difficulties in training of baseball players at the current baseball field due to the new construction of Engineering Research Center and the Third Engineering Hall.
Gymnasium
Players of basketball, taekwondo, and other indoor exercises such as judo train here, and an all-weather running track is provided to athletes as well as a dedicated weight training room.
Tennis Court
8Surface Clay court and 6 Surface Hard Court are nearby the North Gate Dormitory (Muak Dormitory)
Kendo Studio
A Studio dedicated to Kendo is built next to the gym
Swimming Pool
A pool of 4 lane that general students and teachers can use is in the gymnasium.
Ilsan Samae Campus athletic facility
A 105M × 75M distance of soccer rugby combined stadium and an outfield left-right axis of standard 95M, center 110M baseball field is in the campus for players’ training.
