"Professor Kim Dong-hyun’s Research Team Develops Optical Image Device for Nanoparticle Observation"
"NLS, the interaction between cell and protein to be observed"
Prof. Kim Dong-hyun’s research team (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) has developed a super-resolution optical image device which discerns particles as fine as one hundred-thousandth April 10, 2012, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced the successful development of a new optical image method of Nanoscale localization Sampling (NlS). The team’s study findings have been published as the cover article in Small, a research journal in the science and technology field of micro- and nanoscales. The existing and currently used total internal reflection fluorescence microscopy is able to discern the size of only a few hundred nanometers with the light diffraction phenomenon. With the NlS method, the research team has developed a way to restore the biomolecule’s image information by creating a small and strong electromagnetic wave on the surface of a metallic nanostructured chip. This NlS¬based equipment enables the interaction between cell and protein to be observed even with only a general microscope with a newly constructed metallic nanostructured chip. |
