-Various Lectures and Programs
Every summer, the Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) welcomes international students for a six-week program on the Sinchon Campus. This year, 1,200 students from around the world took part in YISS, taking advantage of nearly ninety courses offered in a variety of fields. At the same time, twenty-one businesses and corporations, including Hyundai Engineering & Construction and Woori Bank, provided internships for forty-one students. Another fourteen students took part in internships at research centers such as the Yonsei-IBS Institute and the Center for Nano-Wear (CNW).
YISS 2016 also organized a three-day trip to Jeju Island, along with tours of Seoul and a Korean Folk Village and trips to the Boryeong Mud Festival and DMZ. Other extracurricular activities allowing YISS students to enjoy Korean culture included taekwondo and K-Pop dance sessions.

I joined Professor Jinwoo Cheon’s Y-IBS research lab. They provided me with a mentor from the M.S./Ph.D. program so it was not difficult to adjust to the lab and to participate in the research process. I am really impressed by the international and diverse atmosphere of the summer school. The program is very various and detailed.

“In 2015, I attended the international summer school at Sogang University. Compared to their program, Yonsei University is more diverse and open to the co-existence of diverse cultures. YISS enables students to attend the program comfortably. The campus is very spacious and pretty. After this learning experience at YISS, I would like to get a teacher’s certificate and work as a Korean instructor.”

School: Northwestern University, U.S.

“One of the best features of YISS is the freedom the program allows to the students. Outside the regular curriculum, the program was open to students and encouraged students to enjoy and explore Seoul and its various cultural opportunities. Compared to other summer programs in Korea, the Yonsei program has various and specific courses for the students to learn from. I could take courses for my major and also elective courses.
