On November 1, Yonsei University Library inaugurated the Yonsei Han Kang Book Lounge to commemorate alumna Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature and provide Yonsei students with an accessible and enriching opportunity to explore and appreciate her works.
Located on the first floor of the Yonsei-Samsung Library, the Yonsei Han Kang Book Lounge is themed “Yonsei, Where the Story of Han Kang Begins.” The space features an exhibition of Han Kang’s major works, translated editions, and various interview videos. Visitors can also view poems she wrote during her time at Yonsei, originally published in the university’s student newspaper, Yonsei Chunchu.
A student who visited the lounge shared their impressions, stating, “It was a meaningful space where I could comfortably enjoy Han Kang’s diverse works all in one place. It made me truly appreciate the honor of having Korea’s first Nobel Literature laureate as a fellow alum.”
Nam Hye Hyun, Director of the Office of Library and Cultural Services and Dean of the Library, expressed her hopes for the new initiative, saying, “We hope that Yonsei students will have the opportunity to engage with and deeply understand the literary world of alumna Han Kang through the Yonsei Han Kang Book Lounge. The library will continue its efforts to foster literary appreciation and promote a culture of reading among Yonsei students.”
