The QS Asia University Rankings, first established in 2009, adapts the methodology of the QS World University Rankings to reflect the specific characteristics of Asian universities better, applying regionally tailored indicators and weightings. This year, the assessment included 984 universities from 25 countries across Asia, with 101 institutions from Korea making the list.
The evaluation consists of 11 key indicators, including Academic Reputation (30%), Employer Reputation (20%), Papers per Faculty (5%), Citations per Paper (10%), International Research Network (10%), Faculty Student Ratio (10%), International Faculty (2.5%), International Student (2.5%), Staff with PhD (5%), Outbound Exchange (2.5%), and Inbound Exchange (2.5%). Yonsei University achieved perfect scores in Employer Reputation and Inbound Exchange, along with high scores in Academic Reputation (99.8) and International Research Network (97.7), solidifying its position as the top university in Korea.
In response to the rapidly evolving global environment, Yonsei University continues to offer future-oriented education. The Demand-driven AI-Centered Education (DAICE) program combines AI with other disciplines, equipping students with problem-solving skills applicable to real-world situations. This program is designed to produce the next generation of leaders proficient in AI literacy and data science.
To further strengthen AI education, Yonsei established the Graduate School of AI to nurture advanced AI and software professionals. The university also provides an AI data center infrastructure that supports hands-on learning and research, enabling students to acquire industry-ready skills and integrate seamlessly into the workforce.
This commitment to innovative education and support for AI studies has been positively recognized, contributing to Yonsei’s strong performance in the Employer Reputation and Academic Reputation indicators.
Additionally, Yonsei University has enhanced its research infrastructure by becoming the first institution in Korea and the fifth worldwide to install an IBM Quantum Computer on its International Campus. This quantum computing resource is expected to foster groundbreaking research across fields such as chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and finance.
To support researchers in focusing on their work, Yonsei University has implemented several initiatives, including the Yonsei Future Leading Research Initiative, the Seed Money Program for strengthening national R&D and industry-academia cooperation, and funding for research in the humanities and social sciences. Through the Yonsei Frontier Lab, the university has established strategic partnerships with leading global research institutions, inviting distinguished scholars from abroad and supporting emerging international researchers, thereby promoting academic exchange and collaborative research. This extensive research support framework has been instrumental in solidifying Yonsei University’s reputation for research excellence domestically and internationally.
