2023 Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony Held

Joy of Christmas to the World

On December 5th (Tuesday) at 5 PM, the 'Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony' was held in front of the Underwood Statue to celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus. Commemorating its 32nd anniversary this year since its inception in 1991, the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony has become a proud annual event that enhances the significance of Christmas at our university, rooted in a Christian spirit.

On this day, the lighting ceremony brought together numerous Yonseians, including President Seoung Hwan Suh, faculty, students, and staff, to share the joy of Christmas. Led by Dean of University Chaplaincy Meehyun Chung, the ceremony included the recitation of biblical passages and the singing of Christmas carols such as 'In the Clear and Bright Night' and 'Silent Night, Holy Night.'

President Seoung Hwan Suh, Provost Kim Eunkyoung, Senior Vice President for Administration and Development Kim Dong-hun, Senior Vice President of International Campus Lee Jin-woo, Senior Vice President for Research Affairs Park Seung-han, Dean of University Chaplaincy Meehyun Chung, student representatives, and others gathered on stage, placing their hands on the switch for the Christmas tree lighting. In unison with the countdown, they illuminated the Christmas tree with one heart and one mind. As the lights brightened on the tree adorned with various bulbs and decorations, participants erupted in cheers, enjoying the festive Christmas atmosphere.

President Seoung Hwan Suh, in his congratulatory remarks, expressed, "I hope the bright lights of the Christmas tree remain as a beacon of hope in all our hearts. I wish you a blessed end of the year and hope that the coming year will be even more fulfilling.

Following the lighting ceremony, Yonsei members gathered under the bright Christmas tree lights to take photos. They enjoyed a carol performance prepared by the College of Music Brass Ensemble, shared bread and beverages provided by the Office of General Affairs, and created another memorable moment in the Yonsei community at Yonsei Lawn.
