Building an international collaborative foundation for quantum computing applications and use case studies

The Institute of Quantum Information Technology (Director Moon Kyung-soon) held an international joint symposium "Joint Symposium on Quantum Computing 2023" on August 24 and 25 at Jake Lah Hall, the international conference room of Baekyangnuri.
Under the theme of Applications and Use Cases of Quantum Computing, the symposium was co-hosted by Yonsei University's Quantum Information Technology Research Institute, Keio University's Quantum Computing Center in Japan, and the National Taiwan University's Quantum Science and Engineering Center.

The event was attended by university officials, including Yonsei University President Seoung Hwan Suh, Quantum Information Technology Research Institute President Moon Kyung-soon, Keio University President Ito Kohei, and National Taiwan University Professor Hsi-Sheng Goan, as well as domestic and foreign experts.
On the first day, researchers from our university, Keio University, and National Taiwan University presented their research results and prospects on combining quantum machine learning and artificial intelligence. In addition, related companies such as IBM and Mitsubishi Chemical also introduced cases of quantum computing, suggesting that quantum computing is entering the practical stage beyond theoretical research.
On the second day, researchers from Keio University and National Taiwan University introduced quantum algorithms and quantum computing technologies used in the financial sector, presenting the infinite scalability of quantum computing and innovative future in each field.

The symposium is the first international joint symposium held by three universities representing each country for academic development, and the second symposium will be held at the National Taiwan University in August next year to continue the event's enthusiasm.
President Seoung Hwan Suh said, "This symposium is an important event to promote innovative possibilities of quantum computing and promote international research cooperation. We expect academic exchanges between Korea, Japan, and Taiwan to be more active in the future."
"The application of quantum computing in various fields has just begun," said Ito Kohei, president of Keio University. "We expect more cooperation and development through this symposium."

Meanwhile, before the symposium, our university, Keio University, and National Taiwan University signed an agreement for mutual exchange and cooperation at the Baekyang Nuri International Conference Room.
Under the agreement, the three universities pledged to jointly build bilateral computing education, training and research cooperation in the rapidly developing field of quantum computing.
